Cumberland River Scenery

Lyrics from "Let It Ride" by Ryan Adams

Moving like a fog
On the Cumberland River
I was leaving on the Delta Queen
I wasn't ready to go
I'm never ready to go
Let it ride

Happy 25th Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to my sister Nadine and her husband James. Nadine loves Destin as much as we do so here's a beach picture.

Last Train to Clarksville

We left Grand Rivers on Monday to cruise to Nashville. We overnighted in Clarksville, Tennessee. Clarksville has a great riverfront park. The city is about 10 miles from Fort Campbell where the Army trains its helicopter pilots.

Cave In Rock, Illinois

Cave In Rock is a small town on the Ohio River about 30 miles from Grand Rivers. The cave was used a hideout by outlaws during the late 1700's and early 1800's.

Delta Queen

We crossed the famous riverboat Delta Queen as she was cruising upbound on the Tennessee River in Kentucky Lake on her way to Chattanooga. I blew a one whistle passing signal and she replied with one whistle from her steam whistle. The plume of steam from her whistle rose high into the sky .
Built in 1926, gleaming with four decks of teak and original Tiffany-style stained-glass windows, the Delta Queen accommodates just 176 guests, all in outside staterooms. Unique touches abound, including a rare ironwood floor gracing the Orleans Room, the heart of the ship's nightlife, and an 1897 steam calliope that was once salvaged from a sunken showboat and sold to a circus. You'll even find the very same ship's bell that sounded out landings for the steamboat Mark Twain rode downriver in 1883.

Back In Grand Rivers

We arrived back in Grand Rivers on Tuesday. We saw a lot of Kentucky in one week. The pictures are our boat neighbors on the transient dock. We need to get a few things squared away on the Marlee Ann then we plan to cruise to Nashville next week.

In Vino,Veritas

We visited the Talon Winery in the countryside near Lexington. The area is very scenic with green rolling hills and meadows.

Horse Country

A horse is a horse
Of course, of course
And no one can talk to a horse
Of course
That is, of course
Unless the horse
Is the famous Mr. Ed

Go right to the source
And ask the horse
He'll give you the answer
That you endorse
Always on a steady course
Talk to Mr Ed

We didn't find Mr Ed but we saw several famous racehorses and 40 different breeds of horse at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

The Ashland Fleet

This mural depicted an Ashland gas station. Below the station the artist painted Ashland's fleet of towboats. These boats were running the river when I was working summers on my Dad's boat.
