Columbus Marina

Today is the last day of our 2+ week stay at Columbus Marina. The marina is well maintained with very good facilities. The on site restaurant has excellant food. T Caldwell and his staff go the extra mile for their tenants and transient guests. We will continue to highly recommend this marina to other cruisers.

Boat Neighbors

After the bar-b-que Sarai Ann and Morele went for a kayak exploration trip. Sarai Ann and Thomas from Meridian, MS own Lifes Great.

Sunday Bar-B-Que

Sunday was a beautiful fall day. Cool in the morning then warming up with bright blue skies. We set up a chicken and sausage bar-b-que for some of the marina staff and tenants. The whole scene was a deja vu moment for me. It brought me back to the days that we would cook at our camp on the banks of the Butte LaRose Canal.

Tupelo, Mississippi Elvis' Birthplace

On Saturday we drove to Tupelo, Mississippi (60 miles), the birthplace of Elvis Presley. The house he was born in is now a museum.

Bass Anglers Invitational Trail

A bass fishing tournament was happening near the marina. There were 75 two man teams competing. First prize is a $35,000 bass boat.

Hurricane Ike

Hurricane Ike came ashore at Galveston on Saturday, September 13. The maximum storm surge went up Galveston Bay and hit shore at Kemah / Seabrook. There are about a dozen large marinas in the area. Hundreds of boats were damaged if not destroyed. I got these pictures from various news agencies on the web.
