If you enlarge this picture you'll see two deer at water's edge. There were actually three deer but we only got two on camera.

Cumberland River Cruise
On Friday we decided to take a short cruise up the Cumberland River. The weather forecast wasn't promising but we were tired of sitting in the marina. The Cumberland is more scenic than the Tennessee. We cruised past the Kentucky State Prison at Eddyville and continued for a few more miles. We turned around with plans to head to our favorite Kentucky Lake anchorage. Rain showers were popping up all around but we managed to miss them.

Road Trip
On Tuesday morning we decided to take a drive. We left Grand Rivers and drove toward Cairo, Illinois. We crossed the Ohio River into Illinois then crossed the Upper Mississippi River into Missouri. From the bridges we could see all three rivers, the Upper, the Lower and the Ohio. It's been almost 40 years since I've seen all three rivers at the same time. We continued driving north to Cape Girardeau, Missouri. (hometown to Rush Limbaugh). From Cape Girardeau we recrossed the river back into Illinois then headed south back to Metropolis, Illinois where we crossed the Ohio into Paducah, Kentucky. During the drive we passed field upon field of corn which reminded Morele of family trips to Chicago where her grandfather would remark in French, "Regardez les mais ". In Metropolis we stopped at the Harrah's Casino

Pisgah Bay / Sugar Bay
Lost Sailor
On Thursday morning we left Pisgah Bay and cruised to Sugar Bay. After anchoring in a secluded cove we spent the day swimming and exploring in the small boat. For most of the afternoon we watched the little sailboat going back and forth in the main bay. Late in the afternoon he sailed into our cove and asked, "What bay is this?". I told him and he then said that he couldn't find the boat landing he had launched from. I told him where the nearest boat land was located and offered to tow him there in my dinghy. He said that would be against his principles. We waited awhile then took off in the dinghy. After a couple wrong turns the sailor found the boat landing.

El Campo, Texas
Meet Richard and Verna from El Campo. They recently bought a Heritage East trawler through the brokerage operation here at Green Turtle. The boat is a replacement for the sailboat they lost in Slidell to Katrina. They will be departing soon to cruise the Tennessee River to Knoxville. Once they complete their cruise they plan to keep their boat in Matagorda. I'm sure we'll be seeing them as our respective travels cross paths.

Last night Christian won an Emmy for Best Male Actor in a daytime drama. He asked Anne to be his escort for the awards ceremony. When Christian was announced the winner we got to see Anne on national TV. Good stuff!!!

1300+ Miles Later
After 1300+ miles we have reached our intended destination, Green Turtle Bay Resort & Marina. Green Turtle is on the western edge of Lake Barkley about 20 miles from Paducah, Ky. Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake run parallel east to west. The peninsula between the two lakes is known as Land Between The Lakes and is a national recreation area. We intend to base here for a few weeks and explore the area by boat and car. The website for the resort is www.greenturtlebay.com
Clifton Marina
We departed Aqua Yacht Harbor on Pickwick Lake on Friday. The weather forecast was calling for strong thunderstorms so we decided to make it a short day. After negotiating the last lock for this leg of the journey we ran 50 miles to Clifton, Tenn. The Clifton Marina is only three years old. The marina manager is quite helpful and accomodating. Since it was Friday night, quite a few good ole boys came down to the marina to drink a few beers and swap fish stories.
